EDC Business Visitations

The East Hartford Economic Development Commission has revitalized its Business Visitation Program, in order to assist business people with problem-solving and to provide referrals and resources. Below is an article on one such visit.

Kay's Wine and Spirits

Last spring, the East Hartford Economic Development Commission made a business visitation to Kay’s Wine & Spirits located at 940 Silver Lane, also known as the Stop and Shop plaza. After owners Kailash and Ashwin Naran pleasantly greeted us, our group was treated to a wine tasting that Kay’s has every Friday and Saturday between the hours of 4:00 and 8:00pm.

Kay’s Wine and Spirits has been located in East Hartford for almost 3 years. The Narans chose East Hartford because the location between successful anchor stores like Stop and Shop and The Burlington Coat Factory would provide them the opportunity to serve the local community with some affordable fine wines.

Kailash and Ashwin developed an interest and love of wines through a friend who is a sommelier, which means wine steward, or master of wines. It is through this friendship that they learned about wine procurement, storage, and how to pair and suggest wines to complement particular food items.

Kay’s is a liquor store with a large selection of beer, which includes a wide variety of microbrews and spirits but their business is wines, and trust us, they know their wines. Kay’s carries over 2,000 varieties of wine from all the major wine-producing countries around the world. Kay’s store is very clean and well maintained; their wines are organized in a way that even the novice connoisseur can easily identify and look over.

Now if you’re a little stumped over what to select for a certain meal or occasion this is Kay’s specialty. Kailash and his brother Ashwin have a knowledge of wine that, in our opinion, is truly fascinating. They base their recommendations on your preference not theirs. Kay’s also has an interesting concept on their advice, if you were not satisfied with their suggestions, the staff at Kay’s will go out of their way and try to keep you coming back. Please stop in and find out for yourself about Kay’s personal guarantee, you won’t be disappointed. When asked, “What would you like the local community to know about Kay’s?” their response was “Let us get to know your palate, so we can better serve you!” Go see the friendly staff at Kay’s and give them that opportunity, you’ll be glad you did.

This may appear to be an advertisement solely for Kay’s; it is not. This is the Development Commission’s attempt to promote the town’s many businesses, large and small, in a positive way. Congratulations to all businesses who have invested in our town. The EDC continues to market our town as one that is business and development friendly. We have had some great successes recently and hopefully, with your help, will continue to achieve more.
