What's Happening in East Hartford

The Economic Development Commission (EDC) continued its Lunch Club, held on the last Friday of every month, and now in its 2nd year. The aim is for participants to enjoy the wide variety of international fare available in East Hartford while discussing topics of economic import to East Hartford and the region. The event has really caught on, and every month we've had a good turn-out first to Le's Vietnamese (980 Main St), then to Valenti's Giant Grinders (500 Burnside Ave), Roma (358 Burnside Ave), Margaritas (350 Roberts St), Gina's Brick Oven Pizza - Long Hill Country Club (130 Long Hill Rd), Goodwin College Cantina (1 Riverside Dr), Al Fresco's Restaurant (1111 Burnside Ave), Comfort Inn & Suites (333 Roberts St) where we enjoyed pizza from Villa Milano pizzeria (456 Main St), and Savvi's Pizza Restaurant (1555 Main St). The EDC Lunch Club provides an excellent opportunity to network with colleagues and sample often exotic and always delicious food, all while supporting East Hartford businesses.

105 East Hartford small business owners have taken Small Business Training Institute classes through the Community Economic Development Fund (CEDF). CEDF Small Business Training Institute classes in Business Finances, Tax Related Issues for Small Business, and Introduction to QuickBooks saw an increase in enrollment of East Hartford businesses. Development Office staff worked closely with CEDF to find a home for the courses right here in East Hartford, and they have been successfully housed in the Baccalaureate Academy (CIBA).

In addition, the Town of East Hartford has been partnering with the Community Economic Development Fund (CEDF) on its Main Street Improvement Project to revitalize downtown East Hartford. This initiative is a multi-staged, long-term community development process - a collaboration of both the businesses and the neighborhoods of Main Street to create a vibrant and bustling downtown area. Thus far, Main Street has seen an improvement in lighting, new benches, bike racks, and trash receptacles have been added, and Main Street merchants have had the opportunity to work with a professional window designer to beautify their window displays.
